The truth about beginnings
You really can create a wildly successful business doing what you love (even if you have zero business experience and "aren't good at marketing").
You really can land a book deal (even if you have less than 500 followers on Instagram and no previous writing bylines).
You really can book a national Broadway tour (even if you're currently working a 9-5 corporate job you despise).
I've seen each and every single one—and many, many more.
But I won't lie to you: In the beginning, it will feel hard. And the beginning will likely be much longer than you want or think it should be.
I call this The Momentum Model.
Doing the thing you want to do starts with you wading out into the ocean with a heavy surfboard, getting crystal clear on what you want, connecting with your deeper message, learning how to position and pitch yourself, finding your voice, building relationships, creating the thing you want to make, and learning new skill sets (or brushing up on ones you haven't used in a while) along the way.
And while you're doing all this it often seems like no one is paying attention.
Did anyone even see your last Instagram post?! Because it’s been days and still you’ve gotten zero comments on it.
Can you actually do this?! Because that phone conversation did not go well.
How is this actually possible?! Because it took you a ridiculously long time to write that email and you’re still not even halfway through today’s to-do list.
And so on…
🌊 Until you hit the point where you’re riding the wave of momentum and you feel like you’re gliding across the water. People know your name and are paying you to teach and speak. You're getting referrals. You’re getting features. Creating is easier, and a whole hell of a lot faster too. You have a community. You have a body of work. And you’re living the life you’ve always dreamed of.
Here’s the truth: Most people you see and compare yourself to have been riding the momentum wave for a really long time (think years or even decades).
The most crucial thing is to not quit before you get to ride the wave too.
That’s where the right coach comes in.
The right coach knows how to guide you to the best wave, hold the board when it gets too heavy, pick you up when you fall down (because you will), and show you the destination point when there’s water in your eyes and you’re having trouble seeing or believing that it even exists.
With the right coach, the figurative wading out into the water isn’t just easier, it’s enjoyable too. It’s a huge opportunity to both finally create the thing you’ve always wanted to create, and also grow into the person you know you are meant to become.
Our desires are there for a reason. Always.
You want to build the business, write the book, or make the art because doing it will move you towards your destiny, towards the greater life you were meant for all along—and it’s all waiting for you. You just have to keep going.
With love,
Brielle
